Why international mining companies trust in MetGIS
Easy to use solutions and Spanish-speaking consulting
Our solutions for the mining industry have been developed for meteorologists as well as unskilled staff to make better decisions in weather-related questions. Thanks to our Spanish-speaking team we can help, advise and train you via telephone, skype or in person at your office or directly at your mining site.
Ultra-precise weather forecasts (up to 30 m in resolution!)
Precise and accurate forecasts are the basis for efficiency and safety. This is why we optimized our algorithms to deliver a resolution of up to 30 meters! The combination with detailed terrain data leads to even better forecasts in mountainous areas such as the Andean region.
10+ years of experience in the Latin American mining industry
MetGIS has been successfully operating in Latin America for more than a decade. Thus, we do not only know the needs of the mining industry, but also the weather-related challenges in the Andean region. Our solutions and our customers directly benefit from that.

We already have on-site meteorologists.
Why do we need your solutions?
Many of our customers have meteorological personnel on-site and still count on our solutions. The reason is that current local observation data cannot substitute forecast data, but rather it enhances it. So, if you provide MetGIS data to your local meteorological staff you will get significantly better results.
We don't have any meteorologically qualified personnel. Can I still use MetGIS solutions?
Yes, of course. We paid a lot of attention to making our solutions very easy to use. Every employee can - with a short introduction to our solution - make use of our forecasts. The user interface is available in Spanish and many other languages.
Can MetGIS weather solutions only be afforded by large international corporations?
No. Our goal is and has always been to provide affordable solutions for all mining operations. For this reason, our pricing is very competitive and an investment in better weather forecasts pays off for small, medium and large mining companies.

MetGIS: A few words about us
What does MetGIS actually mean?
"Met" stands for meteorology and "GIS" is the acronym for geographic information systems. The link between these two makes MetGIS weather forecasts so accurate. Weather data are combined with detailed terrain data. This improves our forecasts enormously, especially in difficult terrain.
How was MetGIS created?
It all began as a university-based research project. 10 years later experts from Europe, Russia, South America and Japan developed the MetGIS algorithms. Several verification studies displayed baffling accuracy. When more and more customers started knocking on the door, MetGIS was founded.
What does MetGIS offer today?
From our headquarters in the picturesque Viennese city centre we serve business clients all around the world in English, German and Spanish. By providing ultra-precise data, analyses and forecasts we help you make better business decisions and work more efficiently. More at metgis.com

Meet professional safety standards and improve risk assessment
- Legal regulations, certification processes and corporate guidelines get stricter and stricter
- Therefore professional weather forecasts need to be integrated in health & safety policies, risk assessment, climate assessment and emergency planning
- Meet all mandatory guidelines, reduce risks and avoid liability
- Especially in high altitudes and in winter season heavy snowfalls and avalanches occur and can cause costly interruptions of your mining operations and your supply chain
- Anticipate snowfalls, plan ahead and take the necessary action to reduce down-times and losses
- Use precise snow and wind forecasts to estimate the danger of avalanches
Manage snowfalls and avalanches more effectively
Plan all your operations according to weather impacts
- Almost all processes at your mine and the related logistics are affected by the weather:
extraction itself, use of heavy equipment, supply chain & transportation, blastings,... - Precise forecasts facilitate planning and help minimise down-times & risk of accidents and enable you to better handle maintenance issues and increase productivity
- Strong winds, snowfall, heavy rain and thunderstorms can make an operational interruption necessary
- Precise forecasts not only provide early warnings but also exact start and end times for these conditions
- Pause and restart your operations quickly, so that down time and loss of production is minimized
Minimize your down time in case of extreme weather conditions
